The Pilot Phase of replacement of the heating devices using wood and coal with new devices using ecological fuel was successfully completed in Burgas within the framework of the Integrated Project “Bulgarian Municipalities Working Together to Improve Air Quality” under the Program LIFE. The results from the campaign were announced during a roundtable, held on 15 October 2020, on the topic “Ambient air quality and contribution of the Integrated Project to the reduction of pollution from household heating using wood and coal”.
The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Vesna Baltina, municipal officials and experts in the field of ecology and environmental protection from various municipalities. The results from the implementation of the Pilot Phase in Burgas were presented by Eng. Marineta Nikolova – Director of the “Climate, energy and environment, adaptation to climate change” Department of Burgas municipality.
In implementation of the Pilot Phase, 74 heating devices have been replaced with new ones, which have already been brought into operation and which will service 89 households during the coming heating season. 8 on the new heating devices use gas, while the other 66 use pellets.
During the replacement each household has received instruction for adequate operation of the new heating devices.
The procedures for implementation of the second phase – the Main Project Phase, will commence in the following year. It is more large-scale and envisions the replacement of the old heating devices of 1914 households from the central city are, “Vuzhrajdane” locality and the residential complexes “Lazur”, “Bratya Miladinovi” and Zone D of “Meden Rudnik” in the city of Burgas.
